“The numbers are astounding; 50 million tonnes of e-waste are produced each year.
This is equivalent in weight to 4,500 Eiffel Towers.“
What might be a solution to finding value in e-waste?
Electronic waste (e-waste) is fast becoming a huge problem worldwide. Apart from the increasing amount of discarded devices, e-waste has damaging effects on the environment and human health. Even though e-waste contains precious minerals and valuable metals such as gold, copper and silver, only 20% of global e-waste is collected and recycled. Many of these devices can be refurbished, reused and recycled. By moving towards a circular economy, it is possible to extend the lifespan of electronic devices and reduce e-waste. What might be an innovative solution to reduce e-waste, and create value through a sustainable effort that can benefit people, communities, business owners and consumers?
